  • Coffee Hour reception, Friday, January 12, 2025, Noon to 1pm.
  • Closing reception, Friday, January 17, 2025, 5-8pm.

A small crowd were engaged for hours on the cold winter evening of Friday, January 17, 2025 at the Chris White Gallery.

Four artists — all tenants of Shipley Lofts — made real the vision that originally created the Shipley Lofts apartment building and its gallery. It felt like a small exclusive party.

Mira Estell, one of the curators of “Shipley Showcase”, said:

Friday evening was nothing short of extraordinary—a night of insight, inspiration, joy, and motivation. Each artist invited us into their unique world of creativity and aspirations, offering a glimpse of their journeys.

As a first-time curator, I feel fortunate to have been part of this process and to witness the Shipley Showcase come to life. This was the vision of Chris White brought to fruition, and it was an honor to contribute to its realization. I can only hope to see these moments continue to flourish in the future.

The artist community at Shipley is an eclectic and immensely talented group, each mastering their own medium in extraordinary ways. To say I am inspired by their brilliance would be an understatement—it was a night I won’t forget.

Janice King, one of the artists, said:

I had a wonderful time at the Closing Reception. It was my first public appearance since my accident in October, 2024. [Janice broke her leg in four places.] At first I did not think that I was up to attending, but I’m happy that I decided to go. Being among my fellow artists on the Artist Panel was great for me. I got to tell my story, plus it was good for me to express myself.

I am so happy that I was invited to be a part of this event. I got to see you, the other Board members, Mira and got to meet Jillian.

Also seeing others that attended, some of whom I knew and meeting new people was great. I showed and sold some new Wearable Art Fashion Calendar-2025. The entire event lifted my spirits and this helps in my healing.

David Harris, one of the poets, said:

I had a wonderful time and amazing experience this last month and a half. It just solidifies what I want to do the rest of my life, and that is continue to work in the Arts. I appreciate everyone who took part in making this experience all it was.

Danny Schweers, Chair of the Gallery Committee, said:

The plan was to have a half-hour for the panel discussion. Instead it went for an hour and a half, with the audience fully engaged. The plan was to close at 8:00 p.m. but the audience still wanted to hear the poets — Christian Wills and David Harris. Wonderful! One member of the audience, Dr. Jay Macklink, was particularly eloquent when she remembered when the building was a wreck and the idea of renovating it was first being discussed. The founders had an idea and hoped it would become real. On this night at least, it was real. There were artists living in the building and exhibiting in the gallery to an appreciative audience.

At its receptions, the gallery often offers baked goods, a fruit tray, wine and water, all donated by volunteers at our non-profit.
It was a cold night, so the audience was small but attentive for the panel discussion. Left to right are the two curators, Mira Williams and Jillian Pini, and the four artists, Chad Williams, Christian Wills, David Harris, and Janice King.
