Chris White is an art gallery, an apartment building, a non-profit, and an inspiration.
An Art Gallery
The Chris White Gallery is an exhibition space housed on two levels of Shipley Artist Lofts. The Gallery serves both the resident artists and the greater Wilmington art community as a place for the presentation and appreciation of the contemporary arts.
An Apartment Building
Shipley Artist Lofts is a renovated five-story building with 23 units, 18 of which are affordable housing. All units are one bedroom lofts with an open floor plan in a “pet friendly” building. A waiting list is kept for prospective tenants and artists are given first priority when apartments become vacant.
A Non-Profit
The Chris White Community Development Corporation is a 501(c)(3) non-profit corporation that manages the gallery and the apartment building. Its board members envision a vibrant and just city that is nurtured by our activities.
An Inspiration
Chris White was the Executive Director at Community Legal Aid Society, Inc. and Senior Warden at the Episcopal Church of Saints Andrew and Matthew. He died tragically in April 2010 just outside our building. Because Chris was instrumental in the development of the apartments and the gallery, the gallery and the non-profit are named for him, are final testaments to his talents.
