Lauren E. Peters, Self Portrait, Athena Plays But At What Cost, 30×26, Oil On Panel
Better Living through Mythmaking by Lauren E. Peters features paintings influenced by mythology and a labyrinthine view of humanity. This rich and chaotic breeding ground sparks infinite complexities, holding both brokenness and divinity, stimulating the BANG of creation and destruction. The transformation of matter through imagination and storytelling is our salvation.
“The imagination of scientists has enabled us to travel through outer space and walk on the moon, feats that were once only possible in the realm of myth. Mythology and science both extend the scope of human beings. Like science and technology, mythology… is not about opting out of this world, but about enabling us to live more intensely within it.” – Karen Armstrong, A Short History of Myth
Lauren E. Peters is a visual artist using self-portraiture to explore the construction and performance of identity. Portraits are created from a photo of the artist in costume and taken with a cell phone, reflecting the relationship between a physical form and conceptual or virtual projections of selfhood. She began exhibiting portraits in 2016 and was subsequently awarded two Individual Artists Fellowships from the Delaware Division of the Arts (DDOA) with affiliated exhibits at the Biggs Museum of American Art. She has been interviewed in Create! Magazine’s printed publications and podcast, as well as featured in Suboart and Get Closer magazines, Delaware Today, The 302 on MeTV2, Arts Playlist on Delaware Public Media, Delaware State of the Arts podcast, and Art Watch Radio.

INTROspective by Cony Madariaga is an invitation into the intimate corners of my mind and what inspires me as an artist. My intention for this exhibition is for the viewer to leave this space with a sense of connection to who I am as an artist, and how Art is more than something I do, but who I am. This exhibition explores multiple themes throughout, with the most common theme being people. I see myself in those around me, those who are reflected in my paintings. Capturing moments that have touched me in some way, capturing a moment in the forever of a canvas and paintbrush. There’s something special about holding on to this love through my art.
In my most recent work, I’ve started to explore moments from my childhood, specifically from my early years in my home country, Chile. This exploration comes from the urge to connect to a country I left when I was 7 years old, to understand what life was like for my family, and most of all, to hold and amplify those moments in my paintings. Introspective invites you into the lenses of all the things I am exploring and discovering within my artwork. Ultimately, INTROspective is insight into who I am, how I am, and why I am … an Artist.
Welcome in.
